Hello world, meet Myla!
This is Myla, our 1-year old Chihuahua/Pug mix bundle of joy!
This is her the first day we got her, February 11, 2014. It's hard to believe it's only been a year because it feels like she's been a part of us forever. She weighed a whopping 1.2 pounds and was smaller then her Chewbacca toy that we got for her (we're huge Star Wars fans here in the Colton/Brittany household!) We got her on a whim right before we moved into our new apartment. I'm ashamed to admit we got her off of craigslist but it was love at first sight and could not resist.
It took about an hour for us to fall in love with her. With a face like that, how could you not? It didn't take long for her roaring personality to make an appearance either. She's so playful and cuddly and so, so loving. She has to be the center of attention. She loves everyone! I have never seen a dog get so excited and so anxious to meet new people. Her daddy is her best friend. Their favorite game is hide-and-seek and of course, rough housing. I get so worried that every time they play, that he's going to hurt her but she's so tough and fights back!
We told ourselves that we would not be those people that would let our dog sleep in bed with us. Guess how long that lasted? Juuussttt about the 2 weeks I had left in my old apartment. The second we got into our new place was the second we decided that she belonged in bed with us. She has a routine in bed as well. She typically has to have a toy in bed with her (normally her Chewy, Yoda or a bone) and she'll start the night out in-between my legs - it's warm and safe there. Half way through the night she'll shimmy her way up to put her head on my pillow with her body still under the covers - she thinks she's a human. And that's where she'll remain for the rest of the night, which means I'm typically hugging the edge of the bed because even though we have a queen size, her teeny tiny body still manages to take up the entire bed.
Myla also has her best friends! Surprisingly, they're big dogs. The first dog she ever met was her cousin Sadie, who is a Pit Bull/Boxer mix and ever since, she doesn't tolerate those small peasants we call dogs. She also has Sam, who is our bestest friend of all. Every time they see each other it's like Christmas morning. They also have puppy sleepovers!
As I write this, Myla is cuddled up against my side. She follows me around the house wherever I go. If I go to the bathroom, she's right at my feet - staring into my soul or frantically pawing at me to hurry up. If I'm in the shower, she curls up on the rug just outside the tub. There is so much truth in the saying "a dog is a mans best friend." As silly as it sounds, she's my best friend and I couldn't imagine life without her. The loyalty and unconditional love one receives from a dog is enough to fill your heart for a million lifetimes!
